Over the years, we've helped plenty of sellers go from larger properties to something a little more snug. No doubt, it's not the easiest move to make, as often it can be a move of neccessity rather than desire, but it doesn't have to be as stressful as you may think.

Here's our 6 top tips for downsizing:

  • Just like any move, it is essential to decide what it is you really want or need in your new home. Will this home be able to offer you what you need in the next 10-20 years?
  • You can make changes to a home, but no to the location Is the property in easy distance of local amenities, friends, and family – if this is the reason for the move?
  • It’s only natural for it to be an emotional move, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have a happy ending.
  • One reason for downsizing could be to reduce the amount of maintenance required on a larger home. Is the maintenance on this new home manageable in the years to come?
  • Downsizing means you will need to let go of many things, are you ready to do that? You will have less rooms requiring less furniture and belongings, so the sooner you can start to organise your old home, the less stressful the process will be.
  • Use an estate agent who has experience in managing downsize moves, as they will be a huge support through the sales process.
Answering these questions will provide you with a great basis to start your journey and we are here to help, every step of the way.
